About the workshop

Leadership is critical to developing a more people-centered health system that is equitable, effective and sustainable. It is a central attribute in the delivery of safe, quality patient care. Looking back at many case studies, it is evident that ineffective leadership is a major contributing factor to poor healthcare delivery and consumer outcomes.

Workshop structure

The Advancing Leadership for Clinical Governance workshop is a one-day (eight hour) workshop where you will reflect on your own motivations, assumptions, values and behaviours to build your capability to initiate and lead transformative change in the health sector.

As part of the workshop, you will also gain access to the Effective Leadership in the Healthcare Setting online course (which can be purchased as a stand-alone course), which serves as the pre-reading that informs the workshop content. You are required to complete the online course, which will be made available 4 weeks prior to the workshop and will close 6 months after your workshop is completed.

The online course (pre-reading) consists of three modules:

• Module A: Identifying your leadership potential
• Module B: Effective leadership on the front line
• Module C: Leading innovation and change

It is estimated that you will need to spend approximately three hours per module and nine hours in total on this course¹, which can be completed over multiple days.

All AICG programs have been written by experts to reflect the elements of the AICG Clinical Governance Framework, reviewed by the Course Advisory Committee and approved for continuing professional development points/hours by the accrediting bodies; RACGP, ACRRM and ACN.

Who can do this workshop?

The Advancing Leadership for Clinical Governance workshop is for frontline clinicians, middle managers and aspiring leaders working in health and care sectors who are looking to upskill or refresh their knowledge in this area.

Certificate of completion

Upon successful completion of this workshop (including pre and post-assessment), you will receive a certificate which you should retain for your records².

Delivery formats

AICG workshops are conducted in two formats; face-to-face and online. Participants are able to choose which delivery format they prefer. 

Face-to-face

Face-to-face workshops are held at the HEAL/AICG office in Melbourne CBD. Our office is located directly across from Southern Cross station, making commuting via public transport easy. All workshops include morning and afternoon tea and a lunch voucher to purchase your lunch at one of our local vendors.

• Australasian Institute of Clinical Governance (AICG): 16 CPD Hours
• Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP): 16 CPD hours
• Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM): 16 CPD hours
• Australian College of Nursing (ACN): 16 CPD hours

1. Participants who attend the workshop automatically gain access to the online course, however it can also be purchased separately. If you have already completed this course, you will still have access to the modules as part of the workshop for your review.
