Clinical Governance: Driving Sustainable Change

Clinical governance is not just for frontline staff, it’s for everyone, or so the saying goes. But the reality is the vast majority of care services try to fix clinical governance issues by sending their frontline staff to training. Instead, the focus should be on the organisation as a whole: from the Board, to Executives, to Management, and frontline staff.

At the end of the day, mistakes can have a costly chain reaction, affecting everyone in the organisation. These errors can be expensive, cause inefficiencies, and even injuries or death, affecting the trust of the community and the reputation of the organisation.

AICG has just completed its second annual Symposium on Patient Safety & Quality Care, this year, with a focus on Driving Sustainable Change.

We heard from some of Australia’s most accomplished professionals, across a range of industries, speak on their experiences in Clinical Governance; from frontline health care workers, executive level management, and even how clinical governance applies to industries left of field, like the Australian Defence Force.

Below, are excerpts from the Symposium, encompassing vital information in regard to Clinical Governance and how to manage the many issues and challenges that arise from driving sustainable change.
