Understanding risk and how it applies in any given context is essential when providing informed consent. Therefore, ensuring such understanding is part of our role when delivering any kind of healthcare.

Risk acceptance is an individual decision, and person-centred care in clinical governance means supporting patients in balancing the risk of one intervention over another, or no intervention at all. Informed consent enables a person to make choices that reflect their individual needs and values, according to what is important to them.
