Based on a review of the literature, and interviews with experts and hospital leaders (board members, administrators, and clinical leaders), this white paper identifies strategies and practices that differentiate ineffective board quality committees from those that truly make a difference.

It is intended to inform boards as they set guidelines related to the composition, standards, and functions of the board quality committee, along with specifications for how the committee should interface with the full board, senior and clinical management, and other board committees, such as the finance committee.
