A missed opportunity to improve healthcare is a failure of healthcare.

Improvements in healthcare need not be limited to new, expensive technology development, or process development at a high level. Rather, hospitals can improve the quality of their care by focusing on developing clinical governance skills at an individual healthcare professional level.

In this seven-part email series, Professor Harvey Newnham explores the strengths and challenges within the Australian healthcare system and how this compares to various overseas nations. Professor Newnham's contributions to the Targeting Zero report and his many years working in our healthcare system give him unique insights into the role clinical governance plays within our system and what health professionals need to do to improve patient safety and quality care.
